Dundonald Links celebrated Women’s Golf Day with a free-of-charge tournament at the Ayrshire venue last week.
The event saw 20 pairs of golfers compete for a range of coveted prizes on Dundonald’s Kyle Phillips-designed links championship course, which will host the 2023 Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open in August.
Maria Watson and Jill West took the trophy home, with an impressive score of 48 Stableford points leading them to victory for the day.
The event is Dundonald’s contribution to Women’s Golf Day, which this year is a week-long celebration of women across all aspects of the sport. Stretching from May 30 to June 6, an estimated 1,200 locations across 80 countries chose to mark the occasion with their own events.
Prizes awarded at Dundonald were provided by management company IMG, golf apparel brand Glenmuir, wine merchants Corney & Barrow and golf shoe brand Duca del Cosma.
It’s another significant year for women’s golf at the Darwin Escapes-owned venue as the Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open is set to grace the course again from August 3-6. Dundonald Links successfully hosted the event last year, with Japan’s Ayaka Furue beating the likes of Lydia Ko and Lilia Vu to emerge victorious.
Ashley Pheasant, head of golf at Dundonald Links, said: “The day was a huge success and it’s always a pleasure to support women in golf, particularly ahead of hosting the Trust Golf Women’s Scottish Open for the second year in a row.
“Thanks go to all of the players, everyone who came to support the event and the four companies who kindly provided prizes to deserving winners.”
Dundonald Links is also preparing to stage Final Qualifying for The Open, which this year will take place at Royal Liverpool Golf Club. On July 4, golfers including PGA Championship hero Michael Block will fight on Dundonald’s course for a last chance to play at the world’s oldest golf tournament.
Following extensive investment in recent years, Dundonald Links has transformed from a popular course into one of the country’s most complete golfing resorts. The extensive modern clubhouse and Canny Crow restaurant, complete with a traditional whisky room, have earned rave reviews since opening in late 2021. Guests can choose to stay in Dundonald’s hotel or a range of luxury lodges.
