Aldwark Manor was commissioned in 1865 by Lord Walsingham as a wedding present for his eldest daughter. The original Manor forms the basis of what is now the Aldwark Manor Golf & Spa Hotel which sits in the picturesque Vale of York surrounded by the Aldwark Manor Golf Course. The golf course is a 6187 yard par 72 test of skill and accuracy. It's an easy walking parkland layout split by the meandering River Ure which is crossed by a footbridge. There are many interesting features including mature trees, water hazards and of course the River Ure which serve to provide some unique and challenging holes. The early holes, set in the hotel grounds, are relatively short but they are tight. Holes 5 to 13 are reached by crossing the River Ure and whilst there is a little more room on this side of the river the need for accuracy is maintained by clever use of natural features such as the river and a beck. Holes 14 to 18 are reached by crossing back over the river and provide a very varied and challenging finish to a round. In short, it's a lovely place to play golf!
