Description
Set in the gently rolling hills of North Nottinghamshire in the heart of Robin Hood Country, only 10 minutes from the M1 J27, Hollinwell is more than just a beautiful, varied golf course.
The Official Ecologist to The R&A Championship Committee recently said “Hollinwell is one of the premier nature conservation sites within the UK, it is every bit a nature reserve as it is a golf course and indeed is well known for its nature conservation interests UK wide.”
Currently ranked as the UK’s 37th best course by Golf World Top 100 and by National Club Golfer as an England Top 20 course, the club continues with the widely acclaimed course and environmental improvements accomplished over recent years and may well rise further up the rankings.
Visitors receive a warm welcome at Hollinwell from proud staff and members and can also experience the fabulous championship course in it’s natural setting and a clubhouse with panoramic views over a course which is playable all year round with some of the best winter greens to be found.
Hollinwell really is well worth any journey there and no wonder Club Professional Mike Bradley challenges anyone to find a better inland course anywhere in Britain.
Hollinwell is managed in accordance with R&A Agronomy advice and guidelines which allows the club to provide the very best year-round playing conditions for its members and guests. The aim is to provide an authentic experience with greens that are dry, firm, and well-paced. Green speed will reflect prevailing weather conditions and maintenance practices at the time, but routine speeds of 9ft – 9ft 6ins can be expected with speed increased to 9ft 6ins – 10ft for selected periods and events.
Hollinwell has hosted many prestigious tournaments over its long history including Final Qualifying for The Open every year from 2017 and will do so again in 2022. In 2012 the R&A British Boys Championship was held at Hollinwell and won by Matthew Fitzpatrick. The Brabazon Trophy, last held here in 2015, will be held for a record 6th time in 2024.

atAs always the course was in first class order and a pleasure to play thank you Holinwell.
My only comment to improve the course are some pathways don’t reflect the quality of the course and should be upgraded.

atAnother day, another excellent location for an golfguideuk event. During the day I heard many fellow competitors describing Hollinwell as the best inland course, facilities and club that they had played in England. The day was exceedingly well managed with the smooth registration, a leisurely pre round breakfast and chat with their club ambassador all helping to setup the main event and the feast of golf to come. I will be back and do hope Hollinwell remains on thegolfguideuk tour roster for many many years to come.
