Description
The club was founded in 1890 and initially started out on a 2 mile strip of land along the links but eventually moved to its current location in the early 1900’s. An exhibition match between Harry Vardon and Ted Ray was held on the 2nd July 1913 to celebrate the opening, whilst a European Tour event was held in 1977, featuring players such as Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo and Greg Norman. Today the course has undergone many changes since that period and more recently holes 6 to 10 have been completely redesigned and opened for play in May 2017. The course is a challenging test of golf for all standards of player and presented to a very high standard from tee to green. Views from various locations on the course are truly spectacular, whether taking in the course architecture, design and conditioning or looking out to sea beyond St Mary’s Lighthouse.
