Description
Golf has been played at Wortley since 1894 on a course first established by the Second Earl of Wharncliffe, the founder president of the Club. The course still forms part of the Wharncliffe Estate and the Club retains a link with the family as Lady Rowena Stuart Wortley is the President of the Ladies Section. The course is characterised by tree-lined fairways, fast undulating greens, and good putting surfaces. With only one par five, a series of long par fours and five tricky par three’s there are few easy birdie opportunities. It presents challenges to golfers of all abilities that will long remain in the memory.
The number of members is capped at the lowest membership level in the area, ensuring generally unhindered access to the tee.
Wortley Golf Club is a picturesque parkland course set in the tranquil, natural woodland surrounds of the historic Wharncliffe Estate. Our club was founded in 1894 and to this day remains a unique oasis of peace, set against the backdrop of the pleasant sights and sounds of nature.
Our 18 hole par 68 course measures 6025 yards off the back tees; the undulating fairways and subtly contoured greens present a challenging but fair test of golf for enthusiasts of all abilities. We are able to boast a relatively small playing membership all of whom benefit from being able to turn up and play almost at any time without queuing; the booking of tee times for members is limited to major competition days. Our social calendar is varied, well attended and runs throughout the whole of the year.
We are proud of the plaudits and compliments that we receive for our excellent catering and bar facilities that are on offer in our clubhouse where a friendly atmosphere and accommodating staff add the finishing touch to any round of golf.
