Llanymynech Juniors Lead the Way

Members of the Junior Section of Llanymynech Golf Club have been on a winning streak this
Summer.

Harry Goffin won the Ian Woosnam Shield for best Powys golfer in the Welsh Schools Golf
Championship. He shot a two over 73 at Cradoc Golf Club to finish second in the whole of Wales.
Harry was overjoyed to win the trophy which has a special association with Llanymynech, being the
club where Ian Woosnam started playing golf. Harry went on to play in the Welsh Team which
played England at Monmouth in August.

Izzy Negron Jennings is the winner of the Girls County Junior Championship Shield which was held at
Wrekin Golf Club. She came in with a score of 70 gross to set a new Ladies course record for the
club. Izzy said “It was a good day. I went out and played my best and got a great result”
Rhys Thomas has continued his fantastic winning streak becoming the County Junior Handicap
Champion after playing at Shrewsbury Golf Club and coming in with a net 67. His handicap has
dropped from 26.4 in his first competition this season to 16.9. Rhys has played in the SHUGC U14s
boys’ team on four occasions.

Junior organiser, Julia Line, said “You would think that I am going to wax lyrically about Harry, Rhys
and Izzy’s County and national golfing achievements but they have achieved much more. All three
are an inspiration to all the juniors and adults at the Club, their dedication, the manner in which they
conduct themselves, and their generosity to other youngsters is outstanding. They are true
ambassadors. I thank you.”
