Thank you all for attending the last 2 days at Formby GC and Formby Ladies GC in what is the final event of the 2021 Golf Guide Tour. What a special two days played on two amazing courses and for once despite a couple of hours of rain on the first day the weather gods were on our side.
Starting on Monday in damp conditions, Formby was to prove a tough test with our later groups getting the better of the conditions and Stephen Waddicor & Josh Stevenson from Blackburn Golf Club posting 42 points to lead the field. Scoring was tough with only 6 two’s on the day but we had 20 pairs within 6 shots back and still in with a chance.
A fun night with a few drinks and far too late for some followed in Southport before we all returned well rested …………for the challenge ahead of Formby Ladies.
Tuesday arrived following heavy rain all night and the delightful thought of 5 hours in tough conditions with the weather reports of 99% chance of rain all day !
Well thank goodness The Golf Guide work on small margins as we fell into that 1% with a near perfect day of golf in t-shirts and a course set up for good scoring. A shotgun start made for more fun and atmosphere out on the course before we all headed back to the clubhouse for sandwiches and the famous Formby Ladies cakes.
Our winners on the day Chris Unsworth & Ben Minshall from Cavendish Golf Club posted a 10 under 46 points playing off 1 & 5.
Overall the 36 hole competition couldn’t have been tighter with 4 pairs finishing on 82 points over the two days with Chris & Ben winning the Holiday to Spain with a better back nine of 24 points. Stuart Nunn & Matthew Nettleton 2nd place & Rob Lee & Kevin Bloor 3rd place were not too disheartened as their rounds propelled them into our Top Ten order of merit gaining them a place in Spain also.
