What a stunning day to visit Southport’s Oldest Golf Course with our players enjoying the glorious sunshine for the annual visit of The Golf Guide Tour.
Hesketh steeped in History proved yet again to be an excellent host with the conditions perfect for scoring with spectacular fairways and greens for everyone to enjoy.
Hesketh wouldn’t be complete without referring to the Bentley brothers, Harry and Arnold, who are often described as the most illustrious pair of brothers in the history of the amateur game. Arnold also deserves special mention for being one of the two-man team that triumphed for Britain at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games, leaving Hitler decidedly unimpressed that the Germans could not demonstrate their superiority. The so-called ‘Hitler Trophy’ now resides in Hesketh’s clubhouse after many years without a permanent home.
Adding to the Long History our winners were Adam Brown & Mick Batstone from Barrow Golf Club with a fabulous score of 45 points playing off handicaps 4 & 7. Their score boosted with an incredible finish of Eagle, Birdie for a huge 8 points.
The scoring on the day was helped with the mildest of winds, a perfect day to tackle the links which saw 4 Eagles on the day and 31 pairs scoring Par or better.
